Antinomy, an EP between benevolence and bitterness
The film trope of pulling flower petals to the phrase “He loves me, he loves me not” is the perfect visual reflection of the term, antinomy. In definition, antinomy is “a contradiction between two beliefs or conclusions that are in themselves reasonable” or simply put a paradox. The musings of love by Mafikeng native, Michael Nereus, as presented in identically titled EP, comprise the sonic reflection of antinomy.
Mafikeng native and industry newcomer, Michael Nereus has made his music debut this year with the release Antimony. The project’s previously released singles,“Don’t Hold My Hand” and “Primo” set the stage for its romance oriented theme.
Michae’s musicality and writing style are rooted in small intimacies and grand proclamations, with a production style that scales the soundscape to suit the mood.
Sporting 7 tracks, Michael oscillates between wanting a love lost and disillusionment over a love lost. In his longing and his bitterness, Antinomy strikes a balance between benevolent and disenchanted - a bittersweetness.
