Dj So Nice Blends Afrobeats & Amapiano To Debut "Gucci Like Snake"
Making any song is a creative effort, however, blending two soundscapes together is the challenge that DJ So Nice and Hercules met with a willingness to learn and collaboration on the brain. Thanks to DJ Maphorisa guiding Hercules through concepts of "fusion" music, the beat became what it is. Considering himself a new kid on the block where production is concerned, DJ So Nice is gearing up for his 2020 debut project release Meanwhile In Africa (M.I.A). The first single from the project, "Gucci Like Snake," features Kly, Wichi 1080, and Priddy Ugly; a trio with a recognizable soundscape of their own. It's often best to let artists tell you what was on their minds when they hit the studio, so take a look at their Q&A below!

M3NA MEDIA (MM): Where your 2020 project is concerned, why was it important for you to release "Gucci Like Snake" with Hercules, Kly, Wichi 1080, & Priddy Ugly?
DJ So Nice: Every time I start a beat or have a song in mind, I always know who would sound perfect on it. We were recording in Priddy's studio and Kly just so happened to walk in too. Hercules was there to write the chorus for Wichi to record.
MM: You've featured on various songs with artists like Wizkid, Riky Rick, & Mafikizolo to name a couple. Considering how frequently you've worked with DJ So Nice, Priddy Ugly, Wichi 1080, & Hercule$, what makes the experience different?
Kly: They’re like my family, so everything is always organic. Nobody pushes anybody aside, I guess. You bring what you can bring to the table and we always push each other in terms of innovation.
MM: What are a couple of memorable moments that have shaped you into the Producer-DJ you are today?
Hercule$: Engineering for Wizkid's 2018 Global Citizen set was a moment for me. But I'd say that my work with DJ Maphorisa is what has put me in a place where newer concepts become part of my work. For instance, initially we wanted to do afrobeats, but DJ Maphorisa has been teaching me the concept of "fusion” with amapiano.
MM: Most hip-hop listeners are used to seeing your name in production credits, what interested you in jumping on the chorus of "Gucci Like Snake"?
Wichi 1080: Having ideas that I want to express and being able to execute them myself puts me in a position to be at the forefront of its fruition. Knowing that I have the voice to do what I’m thinking in my head makes me feel like I should just do it. Over time, being on different songs gives me the confidence to do it more frequently. For instance, this is the first afro-fusion song I’ve ever done."
MM: Fans of your music are basically being spoiled with the amount of new music you're coming out with, after "Gucci Like Snake" what else can they come to expect from you?
Priddy Ugly: I've worked with DJ So Nice, Hercule$, Wichi 1080 & Kly so much over the past few months and it works, the work just comes together. I can't say what's coming yet, but I am considering another "something" before the year ends!
