Wise 4 Afrika Launches HarassMap in South Africa

HarassMap began as a volunteer initiative in North Africa to combat the prevalence of sexual harassment through geo-locating incidents of abuse. Through the data collected from reported incidents, the platform is able to identify hotspots for sexual harassment meanwhile allowing survivors thereof the privacy to report without the stigma of legal/criminal sexual harassment charges. Inspired by their efforts, Wise 4 Afrika sought to bring the technology to South Africa.

How the platform works
Sexual assault geo-reporting is the basis of HarassMap. With this in mind, both survivors and witnesses of any kind of gender-based violence are encouraged to log reports of where an incident occurred.
